Here is a necessity to brand our local agro-products such as Jumli apple and Marsi dhan ЁЯНО ЁЯНЫ in Nepal

The world is concerning more about to increase agricultural productivity through commercialization. We can not ignore that the cultivable land is being shrunk by many industrial and commercial activities. In such case, the whole world is running behind the science to develop high yielding hybrids and genetically modified organisms including plants and animals.  To meet the food requirement for growing population, world is working together for boosting agricultural productivity through agri-commercialization and industrialization

Exploring heavy amounts of hybrids and GMOs in agriculture is creating pressure to extinct our valuable local products. We had very valuable delicacy of local crops and animals which has its own value. However, they are either under threat to extinct because of competitive hybrids and/or GMOs or neglected. Even though, we have highly valuable and qualitative agro products in local level such as apple Marsi dhan from Jumla, Amaranthus as seed production in himalayas, finger millet, hurrah pig, chwache pig and many others. The taste and delicacy of these products cannot be measured physically as they have intrinsic taste and texture plus they have their own historical values. However, we do not have specific program to support and promote these products. The value of local products are still behind the attention from government and even from other organizations.

In one hand, Nepal is struggling to meet the daily food requirement and in another hand our agriculture getting question for not meeting sustainable development. We have great threat to lose our valuable agro-biodiversity if we import hybrids and GMOs, and in another hand we might not be able to meet daily food requirement if we go with local products (in many cases our local products are known for low productivity).

Therefore, to balance the issue between sustainable agriculture development, to protect our valuable agro-biodiversity and to promote our local agricultural product, there is a great necessity for branding these products. 


ЁЯСЙBranding local products 

As we know the world is sophisticated and fascinating for trying new and renowned products. Additionally, people are now getting more concern for healthy products as well. We have our local agro-products as apple, high altitude rice (marsi), hurrah pig and many others which have intrinsic delicacy plus they grow organically in high hill. Now, we have great opportunity to explore these products as a brand and have to make them renowned. Once people will understand the value of these products, our products will be renowned, which gonna help us to create a big brand. However, we might have challenge to explore values of our products. However, globe has changed a lot, people now can understand where their money is going, people now can understand if the money they have expend on the products can bring health benefits to them and people now can understand what is taste. Therefore, it could be easy to explore our original value of products as brand new big Brand

Transportation challenge to transport our agri-good from high hill such as Jumla, Humla may not be issue later once people will know how valuable are our products. Because, these days people are concerns with quality rather; for instance, even there are many similar and far more cheaper smartphones and laptops are available in market, people are interested to buy 'apple' products by expending heavy amount. It is because, the brand 'apple' is widely renowned and widely known for its excellent service. In the similar way, our field apples from Jumla, Marsi and other products should go in global market to introduce their excellen delicacy and health benefits. Marsi can explored as 'highest altitude rice in the world' theme, Jumli apples and beans can be explored as 'organic apples' and Amaranthus seed can be explored as superfood in global market.  

ЁЯСЙ Promotion and Branding 

Once our products can be branded, there would be great potential for agro-tourism, good source of income, worldwide reputation and sustainable agri-development. Therefore, now this is the time to go for it, delay might cost us a lot. 


How we can approach for branding?

ЁЯСЙ Government should have very effective laws and policies to promote our local and valuable agro-products in National and international market

ЁЯСЙ Our locals should be encouraged to grow local agro-products in financial return. Government and non-government organizations should facilitate and support growers at initial stage until production goes stable and enough

ЁЯСЙ Should manage enough infrastructure from growing sites to distribution sites

ЁЯСЙ Should conduct promotion program at every level from local growing site, local market to nationwide

ЁЯСЙ Should create awareness for product value along with promotion
