The spices and herbs: Unique identity of Nepal can go an economic agri-business

Nepal is rich in food diversity; people eat many foods with many different ways of cooking them. Though we have different types of food and different ways of cooking, the most important that never goes missing is spices. A range of local herbs and some perennial plants are commonly used as a spice for flavoring and taste enhancing the foods. The mostly consumed spices ranges are cumin, coriender, turmeric, zinger, garlic, cloves, black pepper, cardamom and bay leaves; silimarly the most common herbs are mints, panch aule, gurjo and many more. The use of these spices are inheriting from our ancestors since long and long ago.  Unknowningly we are using these types of spice from long time ago, however, people are realizing the importance of these spices.

A. Spices have health benefits

Many spices we use in our daily life have multiple health benefits such as protecting heart health, boosting immunity, skin health and eye health. The unique identity of the himalays and Nepali spices are now realising for it's health importance. After the pandemic of COVID-19, many local spices and herbs came in mainstream for their health benefits. Therefore, spices are now understood for boosting immunity and people are realising the intergration of spices as much as possible in food. Hence, the demand of spices are being increased because of the health and nutritional benefits. 


B. Spices are ihrereting from forefathers

Since traditional time, spices are being intergrated in our foods. Using spices in our food today are culture and tradition of our forefather we continuing. We have a traditional culture to use spice and herbs when people are sick and not felling well. Furthermore, there is tradition to use heavy spicy food to treat postpartum weekness. Different combination od spices are using for different type of sickness and health issues. Eating healthy, spicy and hears included foods is becoming our inhereting and proud cultural value to treat sickness and weekness.  So passing over the culture also pass the value and importance of spices over the generation, which helps the next generation to support health. 

In another hand, Nepali are now have migrated in many countries in the world but still preferrning their own spices and herbs even in abroad. It is increasing the chance of exporting Nepali spices and herbs in foreign contriues in one side and in another side, now we can explore our spice to foreigners and show Nepali qnique and valuable spices all over the world. 


C. Can go as economic business

The demand of spices are being increased since the pandemic hits the globe. People have now realised that any type of pandemic can appear at any time, furthermore, people are now understood health is important than everythoing. So we can see people are now more concerned to be more healthy. To increase personal immunity, people are now seeking for local herbs and spice that can boost immunity power. Trust for  synthetic medicines are now overcoming by more trust to organic local herbs and spices. We can see that, the demand of herbs and spices including turmeric, zinger and garlic is always high in market. Who have understood the vale of local spices and herbs always trust them. 

In another hand the market value of these spices are always higher than other vegetables and cereals. The demand of spices is always high in market and they are high value crops which fetch high price. Furthermore, these spices are easy to manage after harvest as mostly they are consumed in powder form, so drying and making powder prevent decaying and damaging after harvest. Hence, spicy are pritty much easy to manage after harvest. Therefore, spices can be  an economic agri-business.
