 Finger millet is one of the neglected and indigenous crop. It is not well dominated food despite the fact that it is easy to grow, cultivate and adaptive in low rainfall condition. Even it is highly neglected food in Nepal, it has numerous health benefits.

Many types of vitamins, minerals and fibres available in finger millet. Potassium is one of the main mineral available in finger millet which is best for our kidney health. Potassium is also help to improve nerve signaling  which allow our brain and our muscle to work together and work smoothly. Finger millet is excellent source of Vitamin B which is important for brain health, digestive health, eye health, cell division and even help in fatigue reduction.

A. Heath health

Finger millet is rich source of dietary fibre. Consumption of dietary fibre lower the risk of heart disease by controlling the bad cholesterol. Lowering the cholesterol level in blood helps to contribute atherosclerosis disease. Cholesterol is one of the biggest risk factor for human health, however, soluble dietary fibre available in finger millet absorbs cholesterol from our bloodstream therefore, it helps to maintain lower blood cholesterol without any medication. Therefore, consuming finger millet protect our hearth health without consuming any medicine. 

B. Control Diabetes

Finger millet has low glycemic index  which means that finger millet has lower level of sugars and carbohydrates. Sugars and complex carbohydrates are not good for health as sugars and carbohydrates  takes longer time to digest and also cause diabetes.  Food having low glycemic index can prevent glucose level in blood and prevent diabetes. Therefore, it is always better to consume food having low glycemic food such as finger millet than consuming food having higher glycemic index such as wheat.  

C. Digestive health

Fibre millet is heavily rich in dietary fibre. These dietary fibre available in finger millet are can easily digest. In addition, finger millet has insoluble fibre which supports the growth of digestive bacteria in gut. Therefore, millets also reduce the risk of colon cancer as well. 

Finger millet have some other health benefits as well
1. Finger millet has higher amount of natural calcium and iron. Therefore, regular consumption of finger millet can reduce the risk of osteoporosis. 
2. Chemical components such as phenols, tannins and other components have antioxidant property. Therefore, it prevents metabolic disease. 
3. Finger millet is good source of natural iron. Therefore, regular consumption of finger millet can prevent anemia. 
4. Regular consumption of finger millet helps in relaxing body naturally because it helps to prevent anxiety, insomnia, migraines and depression. 
5. Regular consumption of finger millet is good for maintaining blood pressure and liver disorder.
6. It helps is producing milk in lactating mothers.
7.  Help to prevent malnutrition and premature aging of baby.
