Are you looking for a career in Agriculture in Australia?
Career is an ultimate aim in everyone life. Being employed is a sign of money in your pocket, and money in your pocket is a sign of good life. Therefore, searching for a good life, people seek a career in their lives. Today, I am trying to help agricultural students looking for entry and senior-level careers in agriculture in Australia.
There are two types of careers (employment) available in Agriculture here in Australia, i.e. research-level work and non-research work. There are two different positions for both types of work, i.e. entry-level and senior-level positions. Let's talk about the research work.
A. Research work in Agriculture
Research level positions are usually available as 'Research scientist', 'Research officer', Technical officer', 'Agronomist' and others. Research positions are considered highly technical positions; therefore, it is highly recommended to have some special skills to be eligible for research positions. The candidate has peer-reviewed publications in international journals with high impact factors highly recommended for research positions. Many Universities have a graduate program which offers many entry-level positions such as 'research assistant' for students who have just finished masters and/or bachelor degree. After PhD, the graduate program leads to a higher entry position such as entry-level 'research scientist'.
B. Non-research work in Agriculture
Non-research work in agriculture represents the farm hand jobs, agricultural consultant, field technician and many more. The only difference between research and non-research work is the nature of work, i.e. in a research-based position, you will do research and publish papers; however, non-research positions support production. There are two different levels of positions in non-research/production, i.e. entry-level and senior level. Entry-level positions include basic farmhand, farm technician and support workers, where senior-level positions include farm manager, officers and specialized position in a particular field such as in production, adaptation and plant protection. For a senior-level position, a candidate should have a certain level of specialized skills in a similar work area; however, companies and industry give entry-level jobs for recent graduates in coordination with a graduate program with Universities.
How do you get these positions?
First, you have to choose which type of work you want to do, such as research-based or non-research based. After choosing your field, based on your skill and experience, you can choose entry and/or senior-level positions. For university students, it is always better to register for graduate programs. Therefore, you will be notified when there is a position available. Especially for international students looking for a better career in agriculture in Australia, it is better to start with entry-level positions. Higher-level positions always require specific skills and experience. In Australia, senior-level positions usually step up from junior positions after certain years of experience. Therefore, if you are interested in making your career path to senior positions, entry-level positions will bring you to senior-level positions; this is how it works in Australia.
Students working in the same lab in undergraduate and/or postgraduate studies will have a higher chance of getting a research position if the position is available there. Students working in the same lab have more knowledge and experience to work there; however, if they have to recruit new people from outside, they have to train the candidate who takes time. Therefore, if you are an undergraduate and/or postgraduate research student and are willing to develop a career pathway in agriculture research, apply with the graduate research program.
Secondly, when you apply for a job in Australia, you never have to take a written examination. The interview is only the form of examination as a recruitment procedure. Therefore, only your CV, resume and cover letter should have explained enough about your skill and experience. So, you should have a powerful and concise CV, resume and cover letter when you apply for a job.
You also can apply for the job through LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the most professional platform, and having account, activity and connection in LinkedIn is considered a smart activity. So, you can make an attractive profile putting all of your skill, experience, and area of interest in LinkedIn. It will help you find the right connection and help you find and apply for agriculture jobs in Australia.
Good luck with your applicationЁЯСН
