Problems in Nepalese agriculture ЁЯТе

There are many Problems for agricultural development in Nepal. I have classified them based on my understanding and experiences

A. Understanding levelЁЯза

- Poor concept for agri-entrepreneurship

-Understood/perceived agriculture is low class job/work

B. Policy and Implementation  level

-Poor agri-research facilities available from Government to solve farmer's problem

-Negligible concept to identify farmer's problem

-Very ineffective implementation for cultivable land promotion and protection policy: there is not control mechanism for land fragmentation and promoting and protecting cultivable land; no policy to utilize all cultivable land and not to left barren

-Government research is oriented for only screening objective, do not have problem solving objective in research

-Government is oriented for subsistent cluster based improvement program

-No such commercialization scheme easily available, even existing schemes are not implementing efficiently

-Negligible research and work for agri-input support to farmers

-No such productive agri-input industry

-Low and/or poor participation of private sector

-Very less constructive and productive policies from government

-Poor implementation of existing policies (even week policies are not being implemented effectively)

-No and/or very less schemes available for youth to capture in agri-entrepreneurship

C. Academic levelЁЯУЪ

-Very negligible research oriented academic institutions

-Poor practical facilities available in existing academic institution

-Negligible number of research degree such as masters by research, PhD, Postdoc facilities available

-Teaching focused mainly on 'how to become government employee' rather to encourage student to be entrepreneur'

D. Agri-input level

-No clear concept of healthy agri-input. farmers tends to use whatever available at their home and/or whatever available in market in cheap price without considering quality of product

-Open but illegal marketing of non-verified low grade agri-inputs such as seeds, fertilizers and chemicals

-Higher dependency to foreign country for agri-input support

-No clear concept of insecticides and pesticides: farmers are perceiving insecticides as medicine, haphazard use of chemical without identifying problems and without identifying right chemical and dose

E. No control in market

-Market is dominated by brokers where there is no control on product price from farmers

F. No governance on farmers group

G. Lack of implementation of crop insurance

H. Lack of understanding for rationalization of geographic advantage (tarai for commercialization and hill and mountains for agro-tourism)

I. Transportation barrierЁЯЪМ

-Fragile roads, prone to landslide and flood: often not suitable to transport agri-goods from hills

-Syndicate on transport system, no control on transportation fare for agri-goods transportation

J. Climate change⛈ЁЯМдЁЯМйЁЯМк

-Change in weather pattern, not favouring existing agro-system

-No proper forecasting and prevention strategy

-No solid incentive scheme for for climate change damage
